Coupons

One of my Money Savings Tips is to clip coupons and even though I know it’s worth the little amount of time I spend each weekend clipping coupons, I never really added up the savings. So this will be both a challenge to me and a “proof is in the pudding” type thing. We only use coupons for items we use. We’re not “extreme couponing” people with a stockpile of stuff we don’t use. The grocery stores in our area generally double coupons up to $.99 and occasionally have “super double coupon weeks” where they’ll double coupons up to $2.00. When the coupons double, that counts!

This month, my wife and I decided to track how much we save by using coupons. We’re not counting grocery store rewards card savings, only what we save by clipping coupons from the Sunday paper, online sites, and coupon books we receive from our warehouse club. I’ve heard many folks say clipping coupons isn’t worth the time. However, for the amount of time we spend clipping the coupons, we feel it’s worth it. We probably spend 30 minutes a weekend clipping coupons.

With 1 grocery trip so far this month, we saved $38.20 just from coupons! We generally go to the grocery store(s) once a weekend, so it will be interesting to see how much we actually save to start off the New Year!

UPDATE

Our grocery store this past week offered double coupons up to $2.00 face value.  With those savings, on our recent grocery store trip we saved a total of $17.50!  That brings the total savings from coupons for the month of January to $55.70!

UPDATE

For our last grocery store trip, we didn’t have that many coupons and saved $2.00.  It wasn’t a lot on this trip, but our coupon savings for January is now up to $57.70!  That’s $57.70 that we didn’t have to spend or could allocate toward other budget items!
